A fiery crash at the China GT Championship in Shanghai has produced one of motorsport's most remarkable acts of bravery, after Dutch driver Loek Hartog abandoned his own race to drag rival Ollie Millroy from a burning Ferrari.
The incident unfolded on the seventh lap at the Shanghai International Circuit when two other cars collided and struck Millroy's machine from the side, setting it ablaze almost instantly.
With no flag marshals or fire crews anywhere near the scene, 23-year-old Hartog made a split-second decision to stop his Porsche and act.

He grabbed a fire extinguisher, fought the flames himself, and physically pulled the stricken British driver away from the wreck. He later said he had seen a massive fireball and feared the driver could be trapped inside with no help coming.
Millroy's emotional tribute to Hartog
Writing on Instagram from his hospital bed, the 36-year-old Millroy described the moment in deeply personal terms, crediting Hartog with saving his life outright.
Millroy also catalogued the extent of his injuries, noting he was left with five broken ribs, a broken collarbone, a broken hand and finger, and a bruised lung.
He acknowledged, however, that the outcome could have been far more devastating, thanking Ferrari for building a car capable of absorbing such a violent impact.

Beyond the personal ordeal, the crash has triggered serious consequences for the championship itself.
Millroy's team, AAI Motorsports, publicly criticised the pace and adequacy of the organisers' emergency response and announced it would not return to compete in any China GT events.
Race officials have since confirmed they are investigating their emergency procedures in the wake of the incident.
