The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has directed Kenyans to purchase cooking gas exclusively from dealers it has licensed, citing consumer safety and market compliance as the primary concerns behind the advisory.
EPRA shared the directive on its official X account on Thursday, August 27, urging the public to take deliberate steps to confirm the licensing status of any liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplier before completing a purchase.

According to EPRA, licensed dealers are required to meet specific safety standards and remain subject to ongoing regulatory oversight, conditions that unlicensed operators are not bound by.
EPRA further noted that opting for licensed dealers benefits more than just individual consumers. The regulator argued that such choices collectively strengthen compliance across the sector and contribute to a safer LPG market for households, commercial operators, and entire communities.
The authority's message was clear: verify before you buy. EPRA called on consumers to check that a dealer holds a valid licence as a routine step before any LPG transaction, rather than assuming compliance based on proximity or price.
