At least 16 people have died and 28 others were injured after a bus crash on the road linking the Red Sea towns of Dahab and Nuweiba in Egypt's South Sinai governorate on Wednesday morning, the country's health ministry has confirmed.
Egypt's health ministry said 20 ambulances were dispatched to the accident site to administer first aid and transport the injured to medical facilities. The cause of the crash had not been established at the time of the announcement.
Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said authorities were moving swiftly to ensure victims received proper care.

A ministry spokesman said the emergency response was activated the moment the incident was reported.
The stretch of road where the crash occurred runs through one of Egypt's most visited coastal areas. South Sinai sits along the Red Sea in the northeastern part of the country and draws tourists from around the world, owing to its rich marine biodiversity, striking natural landscapes and popular mountain hiking routes.
Dahab and Nuweiba are both well-established destinations on the Gulf of Aqaba coast, frequently visited by divers and adventure travellers.
Accidents on roads connecting these remote tourist towns are not uncommon, given the winding and often isolated terrain through which the routes pass.
