‘CJP leaders carried out cyber-assault’: Delhi HC to hear woman’s plea over deepfake photo with PM Modi
The Delhi high court has permitted an urgent plea regarding the removal of a deepfake image from social media. A complaint was filed by Riddhima Sharma against four Cockroach Janta Party leaders for this deepfake. They allegedly used her image inappropriately alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi after a protest. An FIR was registered by Delhi Police following her complaint regarding this issue.
NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Friday allowed urgent listing of a plea seeking directions to four Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders to remove an alleged deepfake image of a woman alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi from social media.The plea names CJP leaders Saurav Das, Abhijit Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Ratna Singh as respondents.The matter was mentioned before a division bench comprising Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia, which directed that it be listed on Friday.The woman, identified as Riddhima Sharma in the complaint, has alleged that the CJP leaders carried out a coordinated cyber-assault and publicly targeted her using a morphed image, according to LiveLaw.According to LiveLaw, the leaders allegedly used her photograph without permission and employed AI face-swapping tools to superimpose her face on what she described as a "highly vulgar and compromising image" alongside Modi.The complaint relates to a protest organised by the CJP at Jantar Mantar, where the alleged morphed image was displayed, according to the plea.Delhi Police registered an FIR at the Cyber police station in New Delhi on Thursday following the woman's complaint.
The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
