Wayne Rooney reveals why he had nose job, denies weight-loss jabs

Wayne Rooney has dismissed speculation that he used weight-loss injections to achieve his recent slimmer appearance, while revealing that his wife, Coleen, encouraged him to undergo surgery on his nose.

The former England captain, 40, said he had been working hard to lose weight through exercise after claims emerged that he had been using weight-loss medication.

Speaking to the Daily Mail on Wednesday ahead of the release of the couple’s new Disney+ series, The Real Rooneys, Rooney laughed off the speculation.

“It’s a shame, because I’m working really hard to lose weight,” he said.

The former Manchester United striker also explained that his recent nose surgery was not primarily for cosmetic reasons.

Rooney said he had broken his nose twice during his football career and eventually underwent surgery after developing difficulty breathing through one side of it.

“I couldn’t blow one side out of my nose and so I had it fixed,” he said.

Coleen revealed that she had encouraged her husband to have the procedure, partly because of his snoring.

“I tried to get him to do it because of his snoring,” she said.

Rooney first broke his nose while playing for Manchester United against Preston North End in an FA Cup match in 2015.

He later broke it again while playing for DC United against Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer.

The former footballer said he had put off having surgery for years before deciding to undergo the procedure after the 2026 World Cup.

He later revealed on his Stick to United podcast that he was recovering from the operation and had plastic tubes in his nose to aid the healing process.

Rooney’s comments come as he and Coleen launch The Real Rooneys, a 10-part Disney+ documentary series giving viewers an inside look at their family life and careers.

The series follows the couple and their four sons, Kai, 16, Klay, 13, Kit, 10, and Cass, eight, during a period that saw Rooney move away from football management and increase his media work.

The documentary premiered on Disney+ on Thursday.
