Afternoon showers caused waterlogging at Delhi airport, affecting terminals and passengers, but the situation was quickly resolved.
Heavy afternoon showers caused waterlogging in many parts of the city, leading to traffic jams. Domestic and international terminals of the Delhi airport also faced waterlogging, and passengers were seen wading through water, but it was cleared soon.
“Delhi Airport witnessed heavy rainfall this afternoon; as a result, the approach road and forecourt areas experienced water accumulation. The accumulated water was cleared within some time,” the Delhi Airport said in a post on X, responding to videos of the waterlogging.
Waterlogging was also reported near the Terminal 3 underpass and near the terminal gates, and commuters had to wade through waterlogged stretches to reach the airport.
“Light to moderate rain accompanied with Thunderstorm/Lightning occurred in most places, with heavy rain at isolated places over Delhi during the past 24 hours,” the IMD said in a statement.
In three hours, between 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., Safdarjung Observatory, the city’s representative station, received 32.6 mm of rainfall. During the same window, Palam received 72.2 mm of rain between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, the highest among the city’s weather stations.
Waterlogging was also observed in Mahipalpur, Akbar Road, Subroto Park, and Connaught Place.
