Some iPhone users may get up to $95 in settlement over Siri claims: How to apply

The claim process has opened for a massive settlement involving select iPhones.

(NEXSTAR) – If you own one of several newer iPhone models, you may now be eligible to submit a claim in a $250 million settlement over Apple's AI system. Earlier this year, Apple agreed to settle a lawsuit that accused its Siri Apple Intelligence features of failing to meet expectations. Consumers alleged Apple misled them about the capabilities of Apple Intelligence when it unveiled it in 2024, and, when the iPhone 16 came out later that year, users said several teased features were not immediately available.

Apple has denied any wrongdoing in this settlement. "Since the launch of Apple Intelligence, we have introduced dozens of features across many languages that are integrated across Apple's platforms, relevant to what users do every day, and built with privacy protections at every step," a spokesperson for Apple said in a statement shared with Nexstar earlier this year. "These include Visual Intelligence, Live Translation, Writing Tools, Genmoji, Clean Up and many more."

"Apple has reached a settlement to resolve claims related to the availability of two additional features. We resolved this matter to stay focused on doing what we do best, delivering the most innovative products and services to our users." The claim window for the settlement, which could pay out up to $95 per device, is opening Monday, according to settlement administrators. Some 37 million devices bought in the U.S. between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025, are covered in the settlement.

All iPhone 16 models and the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are among those covered devices. (Apple Intelligence features are only available on iPhone 16 and 17 models and the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. iPhone 17 models, however, were not yet available within the aforementioned settlement window.) If you bought a qualifying iPhone 15 or 16 model within that timeframe, you may qualify for $25 per device. That amount could go up to $95, depending on how many claims are filed, “and other factors,” court filings said.

Qualifying class members are expected to be notified via email about the settlement. That email will have a claim ID and PIN used to complete a claim form, though an option does exist for those who believe they qualify and did not receive a claim ID and PIN. You'll be able to file a claim online at smartphoneaisettlement.com, which is available to individuals, businesses, and entities who purchased a qualifying iPhone model in the necessary timeframe.

Administrators say you may need your device's serial number, which can be found in Settings, then General, and then About. A claim form can be completed for each qualifying device you own. When filing a claim, you'll be able to select from one of four payment options: paper check, PayPal, Venmo, or a digital check. It's not clear when exactly payments will be sent out. Settlement administrators say an approval hearing is scheduled for Feb. 24, 2027, though that date could move.

Appeals may also delay the payout process. "If there is no appeal, your settlement benefit will be processed promptly," administrators say online. You have until Dec. 21, 2026, to exclude yourself from, object to, or file a claim for the settlement. Apple Intelligence is among the several features that Apple made improvements to in its latest iOS update, 27, which was released earlier this month. That includes “new Siri AI,” with its own app, according to Apple.

Siri will be “an even more capable AI assistant with expanded intelligence to be more helpful every day” as part of the update. You’ll find new AI editing tools for your photos, too, and will be able to use your Camera to perform a visual search, with Siri’s help. (A similar feature already exists.) While on a call, “Call Context” will find “relevant information from across your apps,” like a flight confirmation code while calling an airline, Apple explains.
