From 1 September: Night-time tunnel works to begin across Luxembourg
Maintenance and cleaning work will be carried out in tunnels across Luxembourg until early November, mostly at night, resulting in a number of diversions.
Maintenance and cleaning work will be carried out in tunnels across Luxembourg until early November, mostly at night, resulting in a number of diversions. The National Roads Administration has announced that the second motorway tunnel maintenance and cleaning campaign of the year will begin on 1 September 2026, starting with the tunnels at Colmar-Berg and Schieren. The works will include preventive maintenance of safety equipment, the replacement of defective components, equipment inspections, and general cleaning.
To minimise disruption to traffic, most of the work will once again be carried out at night. Tunnels and wildlife crossings affected The campaign will cover the Grouft, Rëngelbour, Stafelter, Gousselerbierg, Mersch, Rouscht, Colmar-Berg, Schieren, Howald, Cents, Richard Serra, Kirchberg, Saint-Esprit, Pénétrante-Sud, Merl, Pétange-Kirch, Biff, Esch-Belval secondary access, Micheville, Aessen, Ehlerange, Foetz, Frisange, Mondorf-les-Bains, and Markusbierg tunnels and wildlife crossings.

Screenshot Tunellen Ponts et Chaussées (1203x814, AR: 1.48) Equipment covered by the maintenance works According to the National Roads Administration, maintenance will cover: ventilation systems; fire detection systems; carbon monoxide and visibility sensors; foam fire extinguishers; SOS emergency bays; anemometers; tunnel, guidance, emergency, and gallery lighting; public address systems; radio retransmission systems; emergency call points; CCTV; automatic incident and smoke detection systems; traffic counting equipment; IT, telephone, and network systems; dynamic, vertical, and horizontal signage; fire hydrants; road surfaces; civil engineering structures; transformers and generators; pressure-boosting systems; pumps; gallery pressurisation systems; retention basins, oil separators, and sediment traps.
