Spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev broke down in tears as he appealed to Chinese authorities to allow him and a small team of volunteers to travel to Gyirong, Tibet, to help search for 80 lost pilgrims who went missing after a devastating flash flood swept through the town near the Nepal border. The pilgrims, returning from a Kailash pilgrimage, were at an immigration centre when floodwaters surged through the building. Sadhguru said the group included 34 men and 46 women, along with three volunteers and a doctor, and that families have received no further information about their loved ones.
A major sports initiative was highlighted during the Khelo India Dialogue, emphasizing the need to expand success into emerging sports such as surfing, sports climbing, water sports, and winter sports by capitalizing on the nation's diverse geography and coastline. To build a robust sports ecosystem, district-level potential will be identified to foster specialized training environments. A key focus was placed on preparing athletes for the 2036 Olympics through a comprehensive talent hunt campaign targeting children aged five to fifteen, ensuring early identification based on physical fitness and interest.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to establishing a modern twenty-first-century sports framework, featuring specialized universities, modern training centers, sports science, and international collaboration in coaching. Furthermore, the youth dialogue platform will integrate ideas, governance suggestions, and aspirations into national sports policy process. The program underscored the vital role of sportsperson spirit in instilling resilience, discipline, and healthy competition required for building a stronger nation.
