IAS officer detained over irregularities in Karnataka veterinary officers' exam

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has detained IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar in connection with alleged irregularities in the Karnataka Public Service Commission recruitment examination for veterinary officers, official sources said on Sunday.The move came after Gangwar was questioned by CID officials on Friday and Saturday after he appeared before the investigating officer in response to a notice. Sources said he was taken into custody for allegedly not cooperating with the investigation.According to official sources, Gangwar was being questioned because he served as Controller of Examinations at the KPSC from February 2024 to March 2026.

A 2016-batch IAS officer, he is currently serving as Director of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the Department of Industries and Commerce.The CID is probing allegations of irregularities in the recruitment examination, including the handling of examination records and OMR sheets, and the role of officials and others involved. Sources said the agency is expected to produce Gangwar before the jurisdictional court and seek his custody for further investigation.The officer's whereabouts had recently triggered a controversy after searches by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the alleged irregularities at the KPSC.State Home Minister Priyank Kharge had later said Gangwar informed that he had gone to his native place in Uttar Pradesh because of a family emergency involving his father's health.
