Gujarat ATS detains Jaggu Bhagwanpuria aide in Punjab firing case

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Tuesday said it had nabbed a man suspected to be linked to gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria's syndicate and wanted in an attempted murder case connected to a firing incident in Punjab's Gurdaspur district last month.The accused, Sukhpinder Singh alias Sukhi, was found at a hotel in Palanpur in Gujarat's Banaskantha district on August 22, according to an official release. The Punjab Police have been informed about his detention and the process of handing him over for further legal action is under way.Police in Batala tehsil of Gurdaspur district had registered an FIR against him in July for allegedly opening fire near the shop of a local resident.

Following the incident, he was booked under Sections 109 and 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act.The ATS said it acted on a tip-off that Sukhpinder Singh, who is allegedly associated with the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang, was in Palanpur. After verification, an ATS team found him at a hotel in the town, which borders Rajasthan, and brought him to the ATS office in Ahmedabad for questioning.During preliminary questioning, the accused allegedly admitted that on July 20 he and his associates, Sahibdeep Singh, Gagandeep Singh and Vikramjit Singh alias Vicky, had fired near the shop of Mehakdeep Singh, the complainant in the case, the release said.After the incident, Sukhpinder Singh allegedly went to his aunt's house in a village in Punjab's Qadian area and handed over his licensed .30-06 rifle to his cousin.

He then travelled through Delhi, Hyderabad and Nanded in Maharashtra before reaching Palanpur, the ATS said.A native of Gurdaspur district, Sukhpinder Singh has a criminal history and has been named in several cases in Punjab and Gujarat, including attempted murder cases and offences under the Arms Act. The ATS also said he had spent nine months in a Dubai jail in 2021 in a drugs-related case.
