ED raids over 15 locations linked to Karnataka minister over excise irregularities

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday conducted searches at more than 15 locations across Karnataka and Maharashtra, including premises linked to Karnataka minister Satish Jarkiholi, as part of a probe into alleged irregularities in the issuance of bar licences. The ED searches are focused on alleged irregularities surrounding the issuance of 18 bar licences, according to sources. The agency is probing allegations that Jarkiholi used his influence to facilitate bar licences and route illicit funds abroad. The searches are being conducted at multiple locations in Bengaluru (five raids), Belagavi and Maharashtra.

The ED's action also covers locations linked to Jarkiholi's brother-in-law Manjunath, who was previously searched by the agency in connection with the alleged excise irregularities.Around Rs 3 crore in illegal foreign funds had reportedly been detected during the earlier stage of the investigation, sources said. The ED's action follows its earlier searches in connection with alleged irregularities in the Karnataka Excise Department.

The agency is examining whether the proceeds were generated through the irregular issuance of licences and whether they were subsequently laundered or transferred outside India.Officials are expected to examine documents and electronic records recovered during the searches to establish the financial trail and determine the roles of those under investigation.- EndsPublished By: Prateek ChakrabortyPublished On: Sep 9, 2026 08:56 IST
