Bengaluru 'Peptide Party' cancelled after food safety department notice

A proposed "Peptide Party" in Bengaluru has been cancelled after the Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration Department sought details from the organisers about the event and the peptide preparations linked to it, officials said.The department said it had also issued an advisory to the public about the event, which was to be held in Koramangala on August 29. The cancellation came a day after the FSDA asked the organisers for detailed information on the composition, manufacturers, regulatory status, dosage and intended use of the preparations.Officials said the event had been publicised on social media as an invite-only gathering featuring "peptide tastings", music, food and networking.

They said peptide parties are informal, invite-only social gatherings where biohackers, wellness enthusiasts and fitness influencers meet to discuss, sample or promote peptide-based products.In a statement, the FSDA said, "The authorised representatives of Upsurge Labs LLP, the organisers of the event, after an enquiry, have communicated that the scheduled event stands cancelled." It added that, based on a request from the authorised representative to submit documents regarding the event, suitable time had been given to produce them.

The department also advised members of the public to take note of the cancellation.The FSDA said the matter came to its notice through social media publicity material related to the proposed event. In its notice to the organisers, it said, "The publicity material appears to indicate that peptide preparationsproducts may be promoted, displayed, supplied, distributed, recommended, administered or otherwise made available to participants in connection with the proposed event."

The notice said the exact identity, composition, source, regulatory classification, intended use and regulatory status of the preparations mentioned in the publicity material had not been established.Officials said peptides are not a single drug or substance, but a class of short chains of amino acids with a range of functions in the body. The FSDA said some peptide preparations, depending on their composition, presentation, intended use, claims and manner of administration, could fall under the regulatory framework for drugs under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

The notice sought details of each peptide product, import and other regulatory licences, as well as claims related to weight management, muscle growth and other stated benefits, along with scientific evidence and regulatory approvals to support them.It also asked for information on medical supervision, consent procedures and arrangements to manage any adverse events if peptides were to be administered to participants.The event has now been cancelled, with the FSDA saying it is awaiting documents from the organisers while asking the public to note that the proposed gathering will not take place.- EndsPublished By: India Today Web Desk Published On: Aug 29, 2026 11:57 IST
