Ghana Jollof case: High Court refuses bail for Salomey Awiti Baffoe

The High Court in Accra has denied a bail application for Salomey Awiti Baffoe, the 40-year-old Senior Nursing Officer from Techiman who is facing charges in the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok case.

The prosecution opposed the application, arguing that the accused is still needed to assist with ongoing investigations.

In its ruling on Thursday, September 24, the court said the case involves a cyber-related investigation and that releasing Salomey Awiti Baffoe at this stage posed a real risk of interference with witnesses.

The court consequently declined the bail application and directed the Republic to expedite its investigations.

Salomey Awiti Baffoe is accused of abetting the publication of false news.

Her lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, had urged the court to grant her bail, arguing that her client is innocent and entitled to bail.

Counsel argued that the burden was on the prosecution to demonstrate why bail should not be granted, but said the State had failed to provide sufficient grounds for the continued detention of his client.
